Hawk, North Carolina - The Wright Brothers of Dayton Ohio, are
the first to achieve sustained powered flight. Their historic
innovation ushers forth a wave of transportation, communication
and commercial advancements. The world is forever changed;
Lindbergh, Earhart, Yeager, Armstrong and Glenn follow.
recent USA Today survey of reporters ranked ‘12/17/1903’ as
the 4th most important moment of the last 100 years (it is
instructive to note the first
three could not have happened without the invention of flight).
EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) is founded by Paul
Poberezny. Established to support and promote ‘homebuilders’,
Orville and Wilbur Wright would have been likely members.
Leadership of the association is later passed on to Paul’s
member volunteers commit to fly 1,000,000 young people for the
first time (no cost) and introduce them to the sensation of
flight. The goal is to reach the milestone by 12/17/03.
EAA plans to celebrate the association’s 50th Fly-In.
Membership has ballooned to 170,000 members in 1,000 chapters
worldwide. EAA is recognized as the leader in recreational
aviation and hosts the world’s largest aviation event in
Oshkosh, Wisconsin: AirVenture.
Annually the event draws hundreds of thousands of aviation
